Getting Ready for Sunday, 9/02/2018
Updated: Nov 30, 2018
To better prepare our hearts for worship, we are continuing our blog series called, "Getting Ready for Sunday." We'll include scripture readings, songs we will sing, and any questions/thoughts/quotes to get our hearts and minds right for our gathering.
We are gathering together on Sunday, September 2 at 4pm for the Holy Eucharist. Take a few moments in the next days to read below and prepare your heart for worship:
The general theme for the lessons and the sermon is Stand in the Spirit. The central text of the sermon with be our lesson from Ephesians 6:10-20.
"The real problem of the Christian life comes where people do not usually look for it. It comes at the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in. And so on, all day. Standing back from all your natural fussing and fretting; coming in out of the wind.
"We can only do it for moments at first. But from those moments the new sort of life will be spreading through our system: because now we're letting Him work at the right part of us. It is the difference between paint, which is merely laid on the surface, and a dye or stain which soaks right through." --C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
